Non-Cash Giving
It is now possible for you to transfer appreciated stocks, mutual funds or other securities to the church. You can also name the church as beneficiary to your IRA, 401K, life insurance policy or annuity. The church is now ready to receive every type of charitable gift-giving and legacy gift; including businesses and real estate. Please contact the church office for more details (631-271-4422 or office@dhefc.org).
A few immediate benefits to you are the opportunity to pay less in tax, give more, possibly reduce your reported income, improve your personal cash flow and even simplify your giving. We welcome you to give whatever God has called you to, however God has called you to.
Frequently Asked Questions
"Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the first-fruits of all your crops…"(Proverbs 3:9) Jesus taught that our money is an indicator of our hearts and Paul taught that if we are loved by God and love Him in return we would give cheerfully, sacrificially, and regularly.
Dix Hills EFC teaches that God is the owner of everything, including our money and possessions. When we give, we give back to God what He already owns. Our giving is an indication of trust, discipleship, and commitment. We believe that “tithing” (giving 10% of your income) is a great starting point to learn generosity and God’s ability to provide for your needs.
We don’t believe that there is a prescribed amount that you are required by God to give. What the Bible does teach is that it should be 1) regular and consistent, 2) proportional to your income (%), and 3) that it should not be coerced or manipulated, but freely given.
The Dix Hills Evangelical Free Church prepares and adopts an annual ministry plan. This plan is carefully prepared with detail planning spanning many months. A ministry plan is an operating tool that guides our church in ministry, missions, and operations. It is important that every member and attendee understand their God-given role in supporting the financial needs of the church through systematic giving to the church.
An Electronic Funds Transfer
Transfer (ACH) program and the Debit Card Option both allow you to make contributions directly from your checking accounts without having to writing checks. ACH transfers also allows giving directly from your savings account.
It saves time! It saves work! It simplifies your life! You can avoid the hassle of writing and remembering checks. It can also help your consistency and faithfulness in giving. It also saves time because the gift is automatically recorded into our accounting software. The trustees don't need to count it; the financial secretary doesn't need to record it or deposit it. It is instantly where you want it to go and you still get an annual statement.
Once you authorize the EFT (ACH) transfer, your specified contribution is electronically transferred directly from your checking or savings account to the church's checking account. Options include a one- time, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly transaction.
Since your contribution is made at a pre-established time, you simply record it in your check register on the appropriate date, such as at the end of each month.
Your bank statement gives you an itemized list of all electronic transfers. It is your proof of contribution. The church also records your gifts and sends you a record of your contributions on an annual basis. These records are appropriate for tax records.
Online Giving is less risky than handwritten checks. It cannot be lost, stolen or destroyed in the mail. It has an exceedingly high rate of accuracy and, is easier for the church accounting office to process.
It costs you nothing and saves you time. The fee to the church is nominal.
You can cancel your authorization at any time by clicking the Unsubscribe button. If you have questions about it, you can contact the office too.
The amount that you have determined to be your weekly donation should all go to the Unified Budget Fund. Beyond that, if you are lead to give to the Deacon Benevolence Fund, then you should give an amount over-and-above your weekly donation. Likewise, you may also give an amount over-and-above your weekly donation to other ministries supported by the church.
Split donations were discontinued when the Congregation voted on a Unified Budget at the 2017 Annual Business Meeting. By doing so, the Congregation gave the Elders and Trustees the ability to use available funds where they are most needed. The Elders and Trustees are still mandated to fully support and fund each and every budget line so that every ministry will receive every dollar budgeted (providing that overall giving supports the approved budget).
